started work on the site and set up the components
mostly playing around with svelte, tailwind, and learning gsap
current state of things look alright but not presentable
next is the hard part
the photo is the current background which will change but i might reuse the textures elsewhere
An exploratory project to a) learn svelte and b) have a website in between switching portfolios. Purposefully minimalist and vague but hopefully effective.
I thought I'd have this finished earlier considering I was making this for a ysws but things got out of hand :D (very pained smile) On the other hand I'm happy with the current state of things, so maybe this project ain't so bad after all.
Using my github commits as a guide, this is a very late devlog for 25h (note that a few hours were spent on code that was scrapped ;-;):
day one: added a section for stationery, which was the original idea; wrote base css, which remains in one file to this day.
day two: added the vending machine mechanisms (this was also part of the initial idea) by taking data from a json file (who would've thought it takes a while to curate things?) and converting that to html; scrapped the section layout in favor of a magazine catalogue spread style; made pages dedicated to the making/history of the website, footer, and 404 error.
day three: added two more sections, meaning updates to tmo and json data; updated the footer with better functionality; found out about mix-blend-mode and applied that to the vending machines; somewhere along the road also added the animations for the machines.
day four: added themes using css attributes (very fun) and localstorage; added one more section, thus additions to json data and footer in kind; wrote the alt text that i procrastinated on.
day five: added a welcome/warning screen for new users based on localstorage.
Most of the time was spent on meaningless CSS even though I had a pretty good idea of what the website should look like. All in all, making a cohesive website like this one was really fun! Would I do it again? Maybe next year!!! I'll keep working on this one - see the text document for what I plan to add :)
ps themes are in the footer... :'D
A static and mobile-friendly website made to practice frontend after being away for a while. Feel free to play around and explore! The mimic will come around next ship I think, but until then, I'll leave this site alone... (if there are any bugs plz email me (it's in the footer))
oh how fun! i still have 2 hrs left to post abt what ive already posted abt (left over time i suppose) so here's the audio player! enjoy the music! enjoy it. also would love suggestions for music (that can be used) and cursor images
so it's been a while. i'm not good at writing devlogs and maybe even worse at keeping them but here's what i remember doing in order of recency (sorry lol):
made all the pages dynamically resizable and kinda sorta mobile friendly:
- re-arranged the about section accordingly (love grids)
- font resizing and other minor rehauls to get things working
- didn't take very long
made an audio player from scratch because that's how i chose to spend my time.
- looks nice (i have a demo but alas only one attachment per devlog)
- does the thing (prev, next, play/pause track; show artist & title; time & volume sliders)
- also can be minimized
connected the projects page to landing/index page
- clicking on the projects in the gallery sends u to the projects page & pulls up the corresponding project page
set up a project page system in projects page
- takes data and translate them into a concise project page with all (which really means some, if not none) of the deets
- clicking on a project preview (white outline) in this page opens up the corresponding project page, same procedure as above
now here's where things get fuzzy...
made a page for fun stuff
- custom cursor selection
- where my live demos will go (there's only one atm :*)
i think i also changed the project preview gallery on the index page to look better.. wow it's been a long time since the last update
- made the gallery take data from the data supply (don't ask, but u may look)
- added little symbols to show the status of projects
also i forgot to say: made the footer look cooler, but now i look insane
...
still no custom art (apart from that sharkboo u see everywhere and other little things)
why is the time tracked for this devlog over a just under 25/24s days u may ask? well of course that's because... css styling is a boulder, and i am just a man. aaalso i keep seeing more things and get inspired to mess around and waste time!
k yap sesh over
ciao!
a thinly veiled disguise for me to do silly stuff with visualizers, which is something i haven't explored yet!
modified a ton of the overall site - this mostly means changing things to grid lol; added a site map; did something funky to the trivia section (updating some js took a lot of time... brain was real fuzzy that day); changed projects section to look better; added some actual placeholder images; added links that work for pages that i must add after this devlog; adding fonts and all the changes that ensure; and many minor visual fixes
essentially finalized the introduction/about me. the image off to the right side is a placeholder though; redid the skeleton for projects - i think this one's a winner, hoping i won't change it again; made some buttons and other css rules; changed the nav - design is likely incomplete; & other minor things...
misc: played around with css (this is a pattern and it will happen nearly every time); need to add a 404 page (but do i tho?); i now have many pages and assets i need to make; still have a lot on the to-do list but i'm p close to finishing the landing page! that means i'm at the 10% mark!!!
considering the art i have to do that percentage might actually be accurate..
made the skeleton, tried an interesting text effect w js (i really should fix it up more but that's for later), added basic css
most of the time was spent on messing around w css... that's what usually happens....... oh and this project is going to take a pretty long while
no actual sc cuz all the photos im using are filler!!!! haha!!!!!
static site + experimental designs + reworking old portfolio - potentially good projects to improve my portfolio ;(
This was widely regarded as a great move by everyone.
