EcoPantry

EcoPantry is a Maven based JavaFX application that aims to help solve the global climate crisis, billions of dollars in food waste, and money waste. EcoPantry allows users to login and scan receipts (w/ Google's Tesseract OCR), as well as auto-add groceries to let them keep track of what they have online. The application’s color-coded expiry date tracking prevents users from throwing food away too early and too late, and the implementation of APIs (TheMealDB) allows EcoPantry to recommend recipes for close-to-expiring foods. Statistics are also automatically generated to notify users on their food wastage, savings, and financial waste/savings. A points system is also built-in, rewarding users for good choices. A SQLite database is used to manage login, groceries, and almost everything pertaining to specific users.

This was widely regarded as a great move by everyone.
