Activity

Every so often, I like to redesign my personal website for simplicity and to showcase my new achievements and knowledge. Introducing eddyzow.net v5.0! It's the most aesthetically pleasing version of my website so far, in my opinion. Although I have submitted my old versions of my website for previous YSWSes, I built this one from the ground up to ensure that it is the best it can be.

Some features include:
- Option to switch between light/dark theme
- Minimalistic theme
- Featured Projects tab with images of my proudest creations
- Carousel for my remaining projects with buttons
- Dynamic Science Olympiad exam lookup script which allows users to sort by season or event name

Future revisions may include using the Spotify API to show what song I am currently listening to. The previous version of my website also had a moon phase tracker, but I removed it since it was blocking part of the page.

PODIUM PRO IS FINISHED!
Exactly 8,507 lines of code were used to create Podium Pro. The awards and slideshow feature have been added, and it is now live on my website! You can also find it in the Summer of Making demo link. I hope that you will use it for your event -- let me know how it goes! And please do raise issues and bugs for me to fix, or make Podium Pro better in its entirety. It was coded with mostly raw HTML/CS/JSS.

Please watch the devlog video I attached -- it goes over every feature of Podium Pro!

This was my first time working with REST APIs, email systems, and also my first time making something that was actually a viable product and tool.

The homepage, attendee dashboard, and organizer dashboard are nearly done! Over 6,250 lines of code have been used to make Podium Pro, and we haven't even gotten to the voting process or awards slideshow yet!

Many, many features have been added, including:
- Ability to join hackathon team with a project code or direct addition from the team manager
- Separate account system for organizers so that they can organize multiple events
- Project status auto-updates every 10 seconds
- Active ability to open and close shipping and voting by the organizer
- Ability to set your own team name
- Event hierarchy of permissions (creator > lead organizer > organizer > attendee)
- Voting also includes specific judging criteria
- Search projects by name, project manager, or team members
- Organizers can edit attendees' projects and manage them
- Intuitive approve/reject system for organizers to review shipped projects
- Organizers can leave notes for attendees to see live on their project page
- And much more!

I am getting close to finishing the base project. The last thing to do is make the voting system and the awards slideshow!

First devlog for Podium Pro! I spent today creating the home menu, backend, database and server frameworks, and login/signup flow. This was my first time working with REST APIs, and they are way easier than I thought! Event codes now work (they are stored in a MongoDB Atlas database), and the magic email verification system works thanks to Brevo! I used JSONWebToken to create the session token system to validate users. Tomorrow, I will create the actual project upload flow and start on the organizer dashboard. There will eventually be the voting feature and awards slideshow that I will be making over the next few days!

Podium Pro

At Undercity (Hack Club's last major hackathon), Podium, the peer voting platform, was a dumpster fire - servers crashed constantly, voting was hard, and the system was just janky. Introducing a better alternative - Podium Pro! Create events, add projects, and vote fairly. Projects are shown randomly to prevent bias, and the UI/UX are designed for user ease. Voting is based on an ELO rating system that prevents ties and is easy, fast, and fun to use. Also, it's mobile friendly!

Podium Pro

At Undercity, Podium (the peer judging platform) was a dumpster fire. Servers crashed constantly, projects were hard to find, and the Submit Vote button was all the way at the bottom of the page, resulting in many people unknowingly not voting. Inspired by this, I decided to make Podium Pro, the ultimate hackathon peer judging platform. Podium Pro should be able to handle multiple hundred concurrent connections. Create events, add projects, and vote fairly in a manner that prioritizes fairness. Projects are shown randomly to prevent bias, and the UI/UX are designed to make the experience all in all much easier for the user. Also, it's mobile friendly!

I updated the confetti and music in the Bonus Round to be absolutely EPIC!!! It might cause your computer to lag LMAO. Also, the bonus round puzzles now come from a separate set of around 400 puzzles. These ones contain more of the uncommon letters, so take that as you will! It's like the real Bonus Round in Wheel of Fortune -- sometimes they put stuff like X, Q, and J in the puzzle so people don't solve it. I'm sure you can though!

Update attachment

Another huge update after a day of grinding!
- Super cool particle effects and puzzle board border with gradients, just like the real show!
- New Bonus Round mode has been added! Get the letters RSTLNE, pick three letters and a consonant, and solve in 10 seconds!
- New puzzles bringing the total to over 1000!

Huge updates since my last devlog! I made a Toss-Up mode. In the Toss-Up mode, letters pop up randomly every second until you buzz, after which you solve a puzzle and earn points. It's a lot of fun! I also added lots of animations that make the entire game super smooth.

I spent the day getting the Wheel of Fortune game's initial concept working! Now, you can spin the wheel, call consonants and vowels, land on Bankrupt and Wild Card wedges, solve the puzzle, and play again after you solved it. I also created a JSON file of over 300 new puzzles that I used Gemini to help generate (the puzzles are actually super well made!) In the immediate future I will try to add art to the project (nightlife pictures in the background like the real show or a more beautiful puzzle board). Sometime later, I want to add a Toss-Up Challenge and a 1v1v1 online/bot game of Wheel of Fortune.

Wheel of Fortune

This is a fan-created web version of Wheel of Fortune, the popular TV word game show, programmed in jQuery/HTML/CSS. Solve hidden word phrases by spinning a wheel and guessing letters. Modes include Main Game, Toss-Up, and Bonus Round. Guess letters, spin the wheel, solve puzzles, and win "money!" Over 1,000 puzzles included, so you'll rarely see the same puzzle twice! Music and sound effects are from the real show (season 39 and onwards)! Disclaimer: I used generative AI to help create puzzles. However, they have been manually reviewed to ensure that they make sense (because unchecked AI is stupid!)
